Tony Jones
Born in a small village in the Pennines in 1944, Tony's working life started in the woollen mills of Saddleworth. At the age of 18 he went to Artic Norway on a climbing expedition and was injured in a rock fall.
Whilst recovering he started painting the local scenery specialising in the light of the mountains.
This then lead Tony to incorporate his love for the mountains with his natural talent for painting. These early years took him to the Netherlands, France, Germany and living with the Berber Tribesman in the Atlas Mountains.
In 1982 Tony Visited Corfu and stayed for three months, returning the following year to hold his first exhibition in Corfu Town. Now, in the summer months he can be found on his catamaran, sailing around the Ionian Sea, painting the atmosphere and character of the islands he visits.
Whilst back in England during the winter months Tony has painted many a public house in and around the Pennine Hills. His portfolio contains an impressive collection of still life, portraits, animals and landscapes.
Over the years Tony, a self-taught artist with no formal training, has developed a fascination for the effect which is demonstrated in his paintings both at home and abroad.
